cross-country skiing is a very marginal sport.

the audience to the World Championships consists of 80-90% Norwegians. on location, even. as I write this, four Norwegians are in the first four positions.

and nobody else in the world cares if they are, either. (except possibly the Swedish King.) we seem to think that producing individuals capable of going quickly with skis on makes us Norwegians much more significant and important as a people.

the funny thing is, we would have been regarded with much more respect if instead we had produced outstanding cricket players.

the only acceptable definintion of sports is as a form of entertainment based on skillful display of prowess. let's leave it at that.
